In post #12 I listed “The Next Ten Commandments.” The first Ten Commandments continue to be in the news, as state legislatures enact laws requiring them to be displayed in public schools and other buildings. Well, the commandments did not stop with the first ten; I encourage you to turn the page to Exodus 21 and read more of the laws that God (supposedly) gave us through Moses. Or read my post #12! Why post only ten when we can post the first twenty? So, even if you are not required to do so I have created an image you can print out and post in your classroom or office space. I am quite sure the “Second 10 Commandments” will elicit some good discussion amongst your students or co-workers. Have fun! ALSO: if you want a purely secular list to post next to the Ten Commandments, the American Humanist Association has published the Ten Commitments. Read them: how do you think they compare to the Ten Commandments? Which list gives better guidelines for living?
Personally, I would like to see in each of these legislatures a bill introduced to require posting of the Parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:30-37). It is fairly generic, not specific to any religion (perhaps even a little negative toward religion!), and teaches a nice lesson that even secularists can agree with. I would love to see conservatives in these various states explain why they are voting against posting words of Jesus, as I suspect they would, because it doesn’t fit their agenda of cutting benevolent spending and programs. Pass this idea on to your legislators!

State legislators, why be so selective in posting the first ten while ignoring the next ten commanded by God?
